Foundation

The first and the classic solo harp album. Excellent for all uses. Michael's recordings have specific purposes.  The primary use of this album is by massage therapists, as ideally paced background music for sessions. Michael has gotten some great comments back from these therapists. It is also good for moderate exercise, or doing any sort of physical work. No matter how stressed or depressed you've gotten, if you sit and take in some of Foundation's therapeutic harmonies, you'll be slowly and surely convinced that something in your environment is worth appreciating again. This album can be used as a protective or calming measure. It has a warm, protective sound which is somewhat angelic and yet contemporary. Such a widely useful and beautiful composition needs to be in every home!  Total playing time is about 42 minutes.  Instrumentation is only solo acoustic and electroacoustic harp in key of C.

Kindness

Guitar, harp, flutes, and lap dulcimer make up this smooth, refreshing album that is an ideal background for study, computer work, or activities with kids. All of the songs were originally created to help a CPA friend relax and concentrate on his work. Since its release in 1990, many moms and teachers have reported that children calm down almost immediately when this album is played. It's become quite popular with mothers of children struggling with ADD and ADHD, for that reason. But there's more here. These compositions have a timeless appeal about them. Each song is very individual. "Affirmation in Eb" is a long guitar piece that was written for a person whose pituitary gland had been surgically removed. Since the song had helped him, it was included. "Fantasy on Alpha Centauri" was a spontaneous experiment with running a lap dulcimer through electronic effects. It turned out well enough to be part of this production. "She Walks Softly Through the Purple Nebula" was inspired by a beautiful painting done by Linda Lee Landon. "Walking on Clouds, Showering Gold on Everyone" was used for a public TV show theme in Denver. "Mountain Lullaby" and "Pilgrimage" were both written to provide a sense of relief after a long day of hard work. The last song, "Silence", was the first vocal ever released by Michael Riversong. The verses are very short, and many people don't even notice the singing because it blends in so well with everything, as if it were a natural part of the instrumentals. All these magical pieces blend and coalesce. During work and play, for homework and housecleaning, the music on Kindness creates a beautiful environment.

Celtic Collection

An anthology of the Celtic-style pieces Michael has recorded, this is one of our bestsellers.A compilation of the Celtic pieces he has recorded and composed at many times and places, this CD has the gentle, fun and magic peace of all Michael's music. So it should come as no surprise that this is his most popular album. After all, everyone likes Celtic music. But this is different. It isn't just another great Celtic recording. I don't believe in fairies. But when I put on this CD to review it, the beginning track almost made me doubt that unbelief -- because every note sounded like a palm-sized angel doing a happy ballet step in the air. If you like to dance but don't like to be pushed and swayed uncontrollably by noisy music, this album will be perfect for you. Of course if you like Celtic music, you'll like this -- it's unique enough to be worth having no matter how large your collection and Celtic enough to fit nicely into that genre. Yup, it's another perfect Riversong album. By the way, if you ever get the chance to talk with Michael personally, ask him about the music on Celtic Collection that dates from his trip to the land of Eire. The lettering on the image above says "Celtic Collection" on bottom and "Michael Riversong" on the top, in Elvish (according to scholar Robert Whitehead).

Angels in the Attic

Songs with tons of kid appeal, on a unique instrument called an angel harp. I once knew an eight-year-old who was terrified of thunderstorms. He would not come out from under the covers during a storm, cried and was completely inconsolable by reason or comfort. Out of desperation I took Michael's advice that I play this album for him. That storm was the first one he ever really saw -- his fear rather mysteriously relieved, he sat and watched in fascination. Similiar stories have been recieved by Michael many times. Aside from being so useful for children, this album is beautifully upbeat yet classical. It's the instrument, I think, the angel harp. They were designed by Rev. Barbie Edwards for anybody to play to help heal themselves through music, and have a unique perky and delightful sound that especially appeals to children.

Ascension

Many of us have heard Michael perform for church services, where he does special pieces to complement the preaching, enhance communion and bring up the offering. Those pieces, in harp, guitar, and flute, are on this CD. And they sound great. But there's a lot more here. On Ascension, Michael pours out his soul in worship to God. Each song represents a moment in the life of Christ, and if you close your eyes and listen, the sounds will take you back there, affirming both your faith and His loving sacrifice. There are fifteen songs, each varying widely - some up to eight minutes, some just one minute - on the harp, wooden flute and guitar. These instruments, and the mode in which Michael plays them, are all reminiscent of Bible time music. The moods range from haunting to ecstatic. If you're looking for songs to bring you closer to the Christ, something besides pop with Christian lyrics, add this to your CD collection.

Balance Within

Another new genre by Michael Riversong, this time, a dynamic and fascinating neo-classical dance style. What an incredible recording! There is simply nothing else like it in existence. This composition is highly recommended for all musicians, students, anyone interested in a new and exciting genre of neo-classical music, and anyone who likes to dance but dislikes contemporary dance music.

But, Mr. Riversong did not design this album just to be interesting. Being a practical person, he gave it a purpose. It is a romance album. You see, in order to have healthy relationships with others, one must first have a good internal "balance" for lack of a better term. This instrumental music is designed to create an environment ideally suited for the development of that balance, based on the original principles developed by Pythagoras.

The songs progress in tempo and intensity, with three beautifully unique dance pieces at the end. These three pieces deliver the sensation of being an a jam session with hand drums, belly dancers, harpists and flutes. A real treat for the romantic, the dancer, or just the adventurous soul.

Dreams and Dances

All guitar, instrumental extravaganza, reminiscent of Nick Drake. Amazing stuff.  Michael's first album and a classic, this is a favorite of old and young, from all walks of life.

A peaceful and life-affirming sound emanates from Michael's original, classical-style acoustic guitar. The songs are meditations on a life lived according to the design of a graceful, loving Father God. I always remember my trips to the mountains when I hear this CD. The songs bring back images of extended families working, playing and learning together, worshipping God surrounded, most naturally, by glorious Creation.

Please don't pass up this chance to tap into a picture of a playful, hardworking and understanding family with these instrumental tracks, completely remastered for 2002.

Nature

A fantastic and cheerful study of the wonders of creation. One hundred years ago, families would gather in the wild places for a day of recreation. Young daughters would sketch the little wonders they saw, boys would wrastle up trees or chase rabbits, while Mother and Papa would relax under a big oak and enjoy the blessings. These days we are so separated from nature. But whenever people know for sure that they are a part of where they are, they feel more alive and generally do so much better. It is a simple principle that we see in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. Adam was created to care for the earth, and his first earthly task was naming all the animals. These days we too often have even stopped caring. The music on Nature: Musical Studies on Creation, is inspired by traditional people, like the Irish and the Appalachians, who knew, and knew that they needed to know about, the elements of God's creation, so that they would truly earn their living from the Earth. "Nature" includes harp, flute, guitar, and some synthesizer and drums in a few places. There is a sequence of music on this album that starts out very peppy and cheerful. Later on, after some grand symphonic-style pieces, the music turns totally relaxing, as if you have just settled in under a great shade tree overlooking a river valley. We have often heard reports that this CD has encouraged and inspired folks suffering from depression. May it inspire you with the spirit of creation. All songs are composed and performed by Michael Riversong. Guest artists on this album are Hoover Price, drums, and Bruce Wareing, synthesizer.

Golden Hearts

An album for those experiencing grief and loss, it was released on CD for the first time in response to the tragedy of 9/11. This harp and guitar album was written by Michael shortly after his mother's death, as a working-out of the emotions involved in grief and loss. Being a scholar of the way music affects one's emotions, Michael was uniquely able to compose music which would help himself and most other people come to terms with these most difficult feelings. You see, there is a "style" (for lack of a better non-technical term) of music called Lydian mode. It involves using only a specific range of notes, a range which sounds somewhat backwards to observant people. But it is this backwardness that allows the music on Golden Hearts to have such a profound effect. Exclusively composed in a neo-classical style, this is an excellent introduction to a true alternative for depressed teenagers who are stuck in the mindless suffering of "alternative music." Of course, since every loss is very personal and the reactions are individual, this album will work for some people and not others. This is normal. However, careful design of the music has made it so the album is enjoyable for everyone. And please do not substitute the use of healing music for the deep dedication to God which is the only ultimately healing experience.

Wedding Suite

For more than twenty years, Michael has been delighting young couples with his harp music at weddings. His original wedding suite, or collection of songs, is available on CD. Naturally this album is recommended for young couples, but anyone can enjoy these sweet songs which celebrate love and encourage those virtues which make marriages last forever. Special songs include a unique harp-based wedding march, a song just for the children, and some pieces to soothe quarreling families. Because Wagner's Wedding March does not translate to the harp well, most clients find the harp-based processional on this album a unique delight. For potential wedding clients, this album is arranged so that it will play in correct order of correspondence to the wedding ceremony. All songs are labeled with what part of the service they are usually used in. If you are interested in having Michael perform at your wedding, please call or email (mriversong@earthlink.net) for information on how you can get this album for free.

Gypsy Fire

A unique solo harp album focused on Flamenco and Hijaz music.  These were once prominent in ancient Spain.  For the first time in 600 years, this kind of music is now available on the harp.  Research indicates that it is especially good for background when dealing with tendon and cartilidge injuries.  The album has a romantic feel to it, making this music good for certain moods as well.

You Will Always Remember

This is Michael's only all-vocal album. It's difficult to classify -- sort of folk, more like country, but not the usual pop-out patterns of country at all, and definitely not your usual pop or rock. Let me describe some of the tunes on this precious recording. The first few strands of song that you'll hear when you put it on will have your foot tapping instantly to the perfectly chosen rhythms. The guitar sounds like a friend backing Michael up in his conversation with you, adding its own comments here and there while he's talking, and telling a whole story when it's his turn to speak. From what they're saying you can tell their character. Neither Michael nor his instruments are the least bit sad or angry unfairly; they're friendly with integrity, some old losses and good memories, some wild joys that are really philosophies they believe in, and a deep character that'll just come right out the minute you meet. If these songs were played on the radio, society would probably start thinking, and then they're start having fun and being good and liking life again. If these songs are played in your home, and you become familiar with them and start thinking of them as friends, you'll have something to turn to when you need the sort of rhythms and melodies you'll get from more pop-style music, or country or folk), but you need the message you'll get from the inspiration of classical music. On some days there's no inspiration like you can get from these songs.
